One of many versions of this type of game. The goal is to get 3 of your markers in a row and remove your opponents' markers. Widely played in ancient, medieval, and modern times - its simplicity is its elegance!
Print out our reproduction of an early 20th century pencil and paper battle at sea. Each player gets a copy of the sheet and marks their ship positions (which they keep secret) and their opponents (as they discover them by calling out their coordinate guesses). The object is to sink all your opponent's ships before they sink all of yours.
One of the earliest board games known. Pictured in the image at left, Nefertari is shown playing this game. Rules are partially known through archeological finding and inferred from game descendants. Those provided here are our favorite rules.
